I think this also applies to patients who have major food allergies of their gastrointestinal tracts. They suffer the leaky gut syndrome, allowing polypeptides to enter the blood, and are not able to absorb nutrients adequately. That is why so many of these patients must be given extra nutrients in addition to eliminating the foods to which they are allergic. This is also the case for children. I have found that even when the foods these children are allergic to are eliminated, they still become healthier when they are supplemented with the correct B-complex vitamins, and of these, B-3 may be the most important.
